1950 Samuel 2023

Samuel Perkins

November 21, 1950 — October 19, 2023

On Thursday, October 19, Pastor Samuel Richard Perkins (72) passed into the Presence of His LORD, dearly loved by his family, his church and his friends. He will be remembered for his faithful servant's heart that reached out to help and care for others.

Sam was born in Warsaw, NY on November 21, 1950, to James and Shirley Perkins, the 2nd of 5 children. In 1958 Jim and Shirley moved their family to Idaho where Jim would serve as pastor in various churches in Idaho and Montana. It was under their guidance and example that he found Christ Jesus as Savior and LORD.

Sam graduated from Weiser High School in Weiser, ID and attended Montana Institute of the Bible in Billings, Montana. It was at MIB that Sam met his wife, (Deanna) Joy Tyler. Upon his graduation at MIB, Sam and Joy married on June 9, 1972. Home was always where God led them in their marriage of 51 years of togetherness. God blessed them with 5 children, Ruth (Randy) Martin, Ivan Perkins, Liza (Andrew) Smith, Sarah (Andrew) Behler, Kale (Lauren) Perkins. 18 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren would join the family. Sam was a family man, coming along side to be part of their lives. His love for his family, his giving of time, his sense of humor, will be dearly missed.

It was a desire to care for others, to share Christ, that drove his heart to be a minister of the Gospel. Sam would spend 38 years serving as pastor in 3 churches: Freeze Community Church in Potlach ID, Rock Island Community Church, Rock Island WA, and his present ministry at Kamiah Bible Church, Kamiah Idaho. He was a Member of Northwest Independent Church Extension (NICE) and IFCA. He was a faithful minister who believed in staying long-term with each church. Sam lived what he taught.

Sam is preceded in death by his son, Ivan Perkins, and his parents James and Shirley Perkins. He is survived by his wife, Joy, and their 4 children, 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. His siblings: Andy (Teresa) Perkins, Miriam (Cal) Leavitt, Tom Perkins, and Priscilla (Steve) Matthewson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all.

The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be given to Montana Bible College Student Scholarship Fund . Checks may be made out to Kamiah Bible Church and ear-marked MBC Scholarship.

A Celebration of Life for Sam Perkins will be held November 10th at 11:00 am at Kamiah Bible Church, 521 10th Street, Kamiah Idaho.
