Patricia George

April 6, 1931 — January 6, 2017

Patricia Irene George, 85 of Lewiston and formerly of Kamiah, IdahoPatricia Irene George passed away peacefully from congestive heart failure, at the age of 85, on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Royal Plaza in Lewiston, Idaho. She was born in Elk River, Idaho, on April 6, 1931. She was the oldest of four girls born to Cedric and Gertrude Sammons. Her sisters, Gay, was born in 1932, Darla, 1941, and Carla joined the family in 1951.

Because her father, Cedric, was a lumber grader, she, along with her family spent her childhood years moving from town to town. Where they chose to call home was dependent upon where her father could find work--as long as their home was near the woods with a stream or river where the family could go camping, fishing, hunting, or huckleberry picking. Some of the places Pat lived were Elk River, Lewiston, Weippe, Riggins, Kamiah, Clarkston, and Bandon, Oregon.

Shortly after graduating from Kamiah High School she married Donald E. George on Nov. 27, 1949. She also attended Lewiston Beauty College between 1949 and 1950. After she and Don were married she found being a housewife and mother (which she often described as being a "domestic engineer") was her calling.

Don and Pat raised their five children in Kamiah where they continued to live for 48 years until Don's passing in 1997. After Don passed away, Pat sold the Ranch in Kamiah and moved back to Lewiston. Pat chose to move into assisted living at Brookdale where she resided for four years until she moved into Royal Plaza where she spent the last two months of her life. While at Brookdale she made many new friends and knew practically everyone on a first-name basis.

Pat's hobbies and interests included walking, aerobics, line dancing, knitting, embroidery, sewing, glass etching, playing pinochle, picking huckleberries, writing, and watching the Gonzaga Bulldogs play basketball. Pat loved to sing and was a member of the Valley Singers while she was living in Kamiah. She was a lifetime members of Weight Watchers. Red River held a very special place in her heart. She and her family loved spending time at the cabin near Red River Hot Springs, creating many wonderful memories.

Pat is survived by her sister, Darla Johnson (Dennis); her children, Linda Vacura (Robert), Eugene George (Kathy), Mary Kress (Leroy), Donna Whittaker (Mark) and Rich George (Cindy). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Don George; her son, David George; her parents, Cedric and Gertrude Sammons; her sisters, Gay Gill and Carla Johnson; and her grandson, Brett Vacura.

Rosary will be held at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Kamiah at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14th with a funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Kamiah Cemetery. Dinner will be provided at the church for family and friends immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the Family Hospice & Palliative Care Services, 1250 Idaho St., Lewiston, ID 83501 or the American Heart Association, 140 S. Arthur St. #610, Spokane, WA 99202.

The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Brookdale, Royal Plaza, and St. Joseph Family Hospice & Palliative Care Services for their excellent care of our mother.
