Obituary for Leo Godwin

Leo Ivan Godwin 92 of Kamiah, Idaho passed away September 28, 2016 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Idaho.

Leo was born April 25, 1924 to John and Maude (Tweedy) Godwin on Tahoe Ridge near Kooskia, ID He was number 12 of 14 children.

He grew up on Tahoe Ridge and always had a strong work ethic. He went to Tahoe and Red Fir Schools and graduated from Kooskia High School.

Leo was drafted into the U.S. Army. Before leaving he married Elva M. "Sis" Sink on September 17, 1943. Leo served in the Pacific Theatre on mop up operations.

After the war Leo returned to the Ranch on Tahoe. While he was still in High School he began to purchase the land to build the ranch. He sold the ranch in 1965 and moved to Kamiah where Leo and Bob Burton started Burton-Godwin Cedar Mill. The mill sold in 1985 but Leo kept busy.

He was a school bus driver for many years. Leo also worked for Idaho County as machine operator and demolition assistant.

Leo enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, Lloyd McHone, Lewis Godwin, Chuck McHone and friends. He had many good hunting trips with Ed & Mable Lyons family. Community dances were a favorite activity which often turned into the Saturday night fights. He loved playing poker and pinochle with friends, especially Lenis & Doyle Wilkins, Bob & Alice Hendren, Jack & Hazel Bowles to name a few. Not only would he play in some of the local card games but once a year he would take a trip to Jackpot. He enjoyed his Bowling League at Kamiah & going to Bowling Tournaments.

After Sis' death Leo was briefly married to Sharon (Welborn) Goodman and they remained friends after their divorce.

Leo is loved and will be missed by all his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elva M. "Sis" Godwin; his brothers Lewis Godwin, Jack Godwin, Ruben Godwin, Jack Bowles, Carl Bowles, Clyde Bowles his sisters Betty Burton, Elva McHone, Ella Tibbits, Ellen Bowles, Bea Tweedy, Marion Swaim.

He is survived by his children Butch (Marsha) Godwin , Donita (David) Powers, and Ricky (Opal) Godwin, and grandchildren; Ryan Godwin, Justin Godwin, Michelle Wilson, Michael Powers, Dustin Powers, Bubba Powers, and Evadie Powers; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We will Celebrate his life 11:00 Saturday October 8, 2016 at Trenary Funeral Home in Kooskia, Idaho. A covered dish dinner will follow at the IOOF Hall in Kooskia.
