Garrett Lloyd Sedgwick

October 10, 1955 — June 5, 2025

Kooskia

Garrett Lloyd Sedgwick was born in Provo, Utah, on October 10, 1955, to Virginia Clawson Sedgwick and Joel Willard Sedgwick. He passed away peacefully on the morning of June 5, 2025, in Grangeville, Idaho, from complications related to diabetes.

Garrett was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply cherished grandfather. On September 29, 2011, he was sealed to Amy Christine Gordon Sedgwick, his wife of 23 years, for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple, a covenant that reflected his deep and enduring love for the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Garrett’s greatest love was his family, and his deepest desire was to live with them again. He found joy in their presence, pride in their growth, and peace in the eternal promises that bound them together.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Sedgwick, and by Paula Young, the mother of seven of his children. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Clawson Sedgwick, and 14 of his 16 siblings, as Garrett was one of 17 children. His surviving siblings are:

Joel, Jonathan, Stephanie, Michael, David, Amelia, Sharon, Benjamin, Christian, James, Deborah, Daniel, Marianne, and Miriam.

Garrett’s children and their families include:

• Garrett Robert Sedgwick and his wife Sarah; parents of Rachel and Eleanora

• Brian Joseph Sedgwick and his wife Jessica; parents of Joel, Zachary, Karen, Nathan, Henry and Lucy

• Elizabeth Virginia Sedgwick; mother of Logan, Nicolas, Mikayla, William, Avalyn, Roman, Elowyn and Apollo

• Matthew Allen Sedgwick; father of Sean, Katie, Leah and Amy

• Jennifer Marie Elkins and her husband Chris; parents of Amelia, Evelyn, Benjamin, Izzette, Opal and Christopher

• Joshua Phillip Sedgwick and his wife Dianne; parents of Abigail and Amber

• Kenneth Bradley Sedgwick; father of Cora and Hazel

• Alyvia Michelle Sedgwick, his beloved daughter with Amy

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Renee Sedgwick and Julia Ann Sedgwick; his grandson, Christopher Wallace Elkins (son of Jennifer); and his father, Joel Willard Sedgwick.

Garrett will be remembered for his playful humor, his goofy grin, and the unmistakable twinkle in his eye. In every family photo, he was the one smiling just a little wider than the rest. He had a joyful spirit, a quick wit, and a love for the simple pleasures in life. He found meaning in baking, creating with his hands, and sharing music.

Garrett had a beautiful singing voice and a deep love for music that shaped the rhythm of his family’s life. He was the reason his siblings learned to play the guitar, and some of their sweetest memories are of singing together in harmony and trading songs around the living room. His legacy lives in every note and every melody that echoes through their homes.

He leaves behind a heritage of laughter, music, faith, and unwavering love—a legacy that lives on in every life he touched.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kamiah LDS Chapel on Highway 12. A viewing for family and friends will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. Garrett will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery, just outside of Kooskia.
