Evah Jay

November 24, 1956 — December 5, 2018

Evah I. Finney Jay, 80, passed away at home surrounded by her family on December 5, 2018. She was born at Woodland, ID to George and Mildred Finney. Evah attended school at Kamiah, graduating as Valedictorian in the class of 1956. She enjoyed school, led the marching band as a majorette and was an excellent baton twirler.

Evah married Donald (Red) Jay in Kamiah November 24, 1956. They made their home and raised four children in Kamiah. Evah was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her caring, cooking and patience were outstanding.

Evah was the secretary at Kamiah Elementary school from 1972 to 1996, where she helped raise multiple generations of Kamiah kids. In their retirement, she and Red enjoyed traveling with their 5th Wheel and spending time with friends and family. A few of her great joys were family, cooking, camping, swimming, hummingbirds, rabbits, needlepoint, bridge with friends and Gonzaga basketball.

She is survived by her husband, sister Minnie Jan Eaton (Vern) and brother Austin Finney (Elaine); children Steve Jay (Chris), Laurie Claar (Jim), Diane Jay and Jerry Jay; grand children, Amity Wilson and Adam Jay; and 7 great grand children. Evah was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Fred, Vera, Betty, Marie and Harold.

The family would like to thank the amazing Syringa Hospital Hospice staff for the wonderful care and comfort they provided.

A memorial service will be held at the Trenary Funeral Home Chapel in Kooskia Friday, December 14, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. The service will be followed by refreshments at the Clearwater 12 Motel Conference Room on Highway 12 in Kamiah.

If you would like to make a donation in Evah's honor, the family suggests either Syringa Hospital Hospice or Kamiah Meals on Wheels.
