Arthur R. Finney, 97

April 22, 1929 - September 29, 2026

Arthur Finney, age 97, of Kamiah, Idaho, went to be with his Lord on Sept. 29, 2026. Art, as everyone called him, was born in Grace Hospital, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, on April 22, 1929, to Pearl and Clarence Finney.

At the age of 15 in 1944, he began a four-year apprenticeship in carpentry and woodwork. At the age of 20, he and the family emigrated to Salem, Ore., applying for United States citizenship. The Korean War began in 1950, at the end of that year, Art was drafted into the U.S. Army Signal Corp, serving his years in Germany until discharged. Following his service, he became a U.S. citizen, of which he was proud.

On Jan. 7, 1954, he married June Brownson and together they raised four children: Cheryl, Richard, Susan and Gwendolyn.

Art worked at his trade nearly all of his life. In addition, the Lord also had plans for him to minister on His behalf. Returning to finish high school, then Bible college and later seminary, completing B.Th., M.Th., M.R.E and D.MIN. degrees. Jesus Christ was Art's life; he served along with his wife and children in the earlier years in New Guinea as a missionary during the 1960s and later with his wife in the mid-1980s in the Caroline Islands as a missionary in an all boys high school as a chaplain and later as the principal until 1993. He pastored churches in Endicott, Wash., Priest River, Idaho and Kamiah. He also used his carpentry and woodworking skills, volunteering work on seven churches for his Lord... and many friends, as well.

Art, as a personality, was a four percenter in the American population of adults. He was goal-oriented, organized, a deep thinker, an easy decision maker, and worked toward changes and improvements in people's lives and cultural circumstances. Considered a positive and worry free person, giving all his issues to his Lord Jesus Christ.

Art is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Any memorials are to be given to the person's place of worship.
